Setting up an additional Monitor or Screen
So, you've got your shiny new laptop and monitor but you're struggling to set it up as a two screen system. It's easy when you know how.
I'm going to assume that you've plugged everything in and you have a desktop on both monitors, if not, you may want to refer to our article on setting everything up.
All you need to do now is to press and hold the windows key and then press "P". This will bring up a sidebar on your laptop screen like this:
All you need to do is to click on the "Extend" option.
If everything is where you want it, you're done. However, it may be that the screen is on the wrong side of your laptop so there's another way to do it.
Right click on your desktop and choose "Display Settings", when that opens, you'll see something like this
You'll only see two but the principle is the same, those boxes are your monitors. By default, 1 will be your laptop screen and 2 will be your monitor. If you're not sure, just hit that "Identify" button and you'll see the numbers on your screens. Now you can just drag Monitor 2 over to the correct side. For example, if your monitor is to the right of your laptop, your screens here should read 1,2 from the left but if your monitor is on the left, then they should be 2,1.
You can even drag the monitor above or below the laptop or indeed, anywhere. The point is that you can replicate your physical setup.
